Electrical Commission
The Village of Barrington Electrical Commission fulfills two main functions: the commission recommends electrical regulations to the Board of Trustees for adoption by the village, and the commission hears and renders final decisions on appeals of decisions of the electrical or building inspector regarding the electrical code.

The Electrical Commission is composed of six members: the chief electrical inspector, a registered professional engineer, an electrical contractor, a journeyman electrician, the chief of fire/EMS, and a representative of an electrical supply company. The chief electrical inspector serves as ex-officio chairman of the commission. The Electrical Commission meets only as necessary. Commissioners are appointed for terms of one year, and serve until a successor is appointed.

Village Board
The Village Board meets at 8:00 pm on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at the Village Hall.

You may want to come to the Board meetings to learn about Village issues or to comment on one of your concerns; an open forum called "Citizens Registration" is scheduled during each Board meeting for residents who wish to express their opinions.

Please see the Village Board section of the web site for additional information.

Zoning Board of Appeals
The ZBA is a seven-member, appointed advisory body which makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees regarding zoning variation requests. A variation is a zoning adjustment which permits minor changes of district requirements where individual properties are both harshly and uniquely burdened by the strict application of the law. In addition, the Zoning Board of Appeals also hears appeals regarding decisions of the Building and Planning Department.

Petitions for zoning variations must be filed with the Building & Zoning Division of the Village approximately 45 days prior to the regular ZBA Hearing date. The hearings are held on the first Tuesday of each month (as needed) at 7:30 pm in the Village Board Room. The Zoning Board also hears appeals regarding decisions made by the Building and Planning Department.

For more information please contact Jim Wallace, Director of Building and Planning at (847) 304-3460.
