Spring Hydrant Flushing & Chipping Schedule

HYDRANT FLUSHING SCHEDULE

APRIL 15 – 26 (6:30am – 3:00pm)
Flushing will occur in the Village of Barrington, Paganica of Barrington Hills, Braymore, Weatherstone, Glencrest, and Sanctuary of Inverness

APRIL 29 – MAY 3 (6:30am – 3:00pm)
Flushing will occur in Abbey Woods and Estates of Inverness Ridge

The Village conducts annual flushing of the water distribution system to eliminate as much mineral content as possible from the domestic water supply. Fire hydrant flushing removes a considerable amount of loose mineral content and “settleable” solids that accumulate in the water system over a period of time and it also allows Public Works to ensure all hydrants are working properly in the event they are needed to put out a fire.

Flushing will occur from April 15th through May 3rd (as listed above, weather permitting). You may experience discoloration, low water pressure, and rusty water during flushing operations. This may occur during the entire flushing period, even when flushing may not be in your immediate area. Although water may be discolored, it is safe to drink; however, until the water runs clear, you should avoid washing clothes, especially whites. If you need additional information, please call Public Works at 847-381-7903.

CHIPPING SCHEDULE

BOARD BUSINESS

Our Board Business column is featured in our bi-weekly E-News blast and highlights recent actions taken by the Village of Barrington Board of Trustees, pictured below.

April 22, 2024 Board Business

At the April 22, 2024, Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved electrical service improvements at the Wool Street parking lot adjacent to the Metra train station and the BMO Harris parking lot. Additionally, the Barrington Junior Women’s Club presented its Character Counts awards.

“The electrical projects exemplify the village’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and sustainability within our community. By upgrading the electrical service at the Wool Street and BMO Harris Bank parking lots, we ensure the safety and efficiency of these areas and pave the way for future advancements. From supporting local events with reliable power sources to facilitating the integration of potential electric vehicle charging stations in the future, these initiatives underscore our dedication to the well-being of Barrington residents and visitors alike,” said Trustee Mike Moran.

“Character Counts is an important program highlighting the wonderful things people are doing in our community. The length of time these recipients have been doing great work behind the scenes is commendable. Year after year, it is amazing to see the volume and depth of community involvement. We are very fortunate to live in a place where people look out for one another,” said Trustee Jason Lohmeyer.

March 22, 2024 Board Business

At the March 18, 2024, Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved the replacement and upgrades of multiple outdoor warning sirens.
“The replacement of two outdoor warning sirens and the upgrade of five existing ones will ensure our emergency alert system is both modern and effective,” said Trustee Mike Moran. “These updates to our emergency siren system are crucial for maintaining public safety. These sirens, along with our communications application Everbridge, ensure that our residents are quickly and reliably informed about severe weather and other emergencies.”

MARCH 8, 2024 Board Business

At the February 26, 2024, Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved the Pace Suburban Bus agreement with Lake Barrington and Barrington and Cuba Townships and celebrated Barrington’s White House recent Innovator of the Year award from the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce.
“Through our partnership with Pace, we provide access for our residents to local destinations and necessary appointments in and around our community. We are pleased to partner with Barrington and Cuba Townships, as well as Lake Barrington, to provide this important service,” said Trustee Mike Moran.

“We are proud to receive the Innovator of the Year award for Barrington’s White House,” explained Trustee Todd Sholeen. “This is a testament to its staff, volunteers, and dynamic and culturally enriched programming that positively impacts our entire community.”

JANUARY 19, 2024 Board Business

At the Monday, January 5, 2024, Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved a contract with development services consultant Leslie Murphy of Leslie Murphy Consulting, LLC.
“Engaging with economic development expert Leslie Murphy reinforces the Board’s dedication to the Village’s economic growth. Leslie’s insights will be pivotal in shaping innovative economic strategies, reinforcing our connections with local businesses, and evaluating the most effective tools for economic development,” stated Trustee Jennifer Wondrasek.

December 15, 2023 Board Business

At the Monday, December 11, 2023, Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved two actions including the approval of the Director of Cultural Affairs position and a zoning Special Use and Certificate of Approval for a day care center.

“With the Director of Cultural Affairs, we aim to bring in a leader who not only meets the job qualifications but will also continue the high caliber of cultural programming that has been set by Dr. Rollin Potter, who has been leading our cultural event seasons through Barrington’s White House for eight years,” said Trustee Jason Lohmeyer.

“The board is pleased to provide the Special Use and Certificate of Approval for 310 E. James Street, the previous District 220 Administrative Offices, to be repurposed as a day care center, which will support the community and Barrington families by providing a new offering of child care,” said Trustee Brian Prigge.

December 1, 2023 Board Business

Two public safety initiatives were passed at the Monday, November 27, 2023 Board of Trustees meeting. The Village Code was amended to include language relating to “Street Racing” and “Street Sideshows” Takeovers and prohibiting the sales of Alternative Tobacco Products Delta 8 and Delta 9.

“Because the Village of Barrington is a Home Rule community, the board is able to pass public safety code amendments such as these. This will allow our police department to be more proactive in protecting the public from street racing and street takeovers,” said Trustee Todd Sholeen.

“The board adopted a code amendment prohibiting the sale of Delta 8 and Delta 9 in the Village of Barrington for the safety of our community. Due to manufacturing inconsistencies, overall safety, and lack of regulation, prohibiting the sales of these products will allow us to keep our residents safe,” said Trustee Kate Duncan.
