The Village of Barrington is under a hazardous weather outlook this week with the risk for potential thunderstorms, excessive heat and an air quality alert.

Below are a few safety precautions to keep in mind:

  • Heat-related illness can develop quickly, particularly in times of humidity and strenuous activity. Limit prolonged outdoor activities and minimize sun exposure.
  • If outdoors, stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in air conditioning.
  • Never leave children or pets in unattended vehicles.
  • Keep in touch with older relatives and neighbors to check on their health and well-being.
  • As temperatures rise, residents who do not have access to air-conditioned facilities can utilize a local cooling center during severe hot weather.

The Village of Barrington operates two cooling centers open to the public:

Barrington Train Station
201 S. Spring St.
Available 5 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Barrington Public Safety Building
400 N Northwest Hwy.
Available after 10 p.m.

For questions or issues with accessing the centers, please contact the Village of Barrington Police Department at (847) 304-3300.
