Operation North Pole Express at Barrington's Train Station
Saturday, December 14
Train Passes at 12:44 p.m.
Come Wave to the Children and Bring Donations for Let It Be Us
All aboard the Operation North Pole Express! For the last eight years, the incredible staff and volunteers of Operation North Pole (ONP) have helped spread the spirit of the holidays to children and families affected by illness, and Christmas 2019 looks to be nothing less than spectacular.
The main event, Winter Wonderland, will take place on Saturday, December 14th. The special day brings together a group of seriously and terminally ill children and their families to enjoy breakfast, followed by a magical hour-long train ride on the Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest line where volunteers dressed as elves will bring smiles, entertainment and laughs while traveling to the “North Pole” station.
All community members are invited to pack each train station platform along the train’s route at the Barrington Train Station. At exactly 12:44 p.m., the special ONP Metra train will be rolling through the Barrington station with an overhead drone and media coverage on the ground to capture all of the magic and cheering crowds. This year, ONP is also paying it forward by partnering with Barrington-based charity, Let it Be Us, the premier foster and adoptive parent recruitment agency in Illinois. All attendees are asked to bring their donations of socks, underwear, pajamas, warm coats, hats, gloves, or nonperishable snacks to the Barrington Train Station on 12/14 for collection.
Upon arrival at the North Pole, Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with an incredible crew of local firefighters and police officers, will welcome the families to the Winter Wonderland setting of the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont for an afternoon filled with dancing, food, candy, music, games and presents. Participating in this event will guarantee you a spot on Santa’s “GOOD LIST” and warm you up from the inside out!

About Operation North Pole
Operation North Pole (ONP) is a volunteer-based public charity. ONP works with major children’s hospitals, providing a day of fun and fantasy for families who have a child battling a life threatening illness by hosting a fantasy trip to the North Pole. With the emotional and financial stresses a family with a child battling a life-threatening or a terminal illness may face, ONP makes every effort to ensure that the entire family participates and shares in the day's festivities. The magical experience includes breakfast, a festive train ride to the North Pole, a visit with Santa, winter wonderland fun, entertainment, treats, personal wish list gifts and much more! It's ONP's goal to provide these families an unforgettable experience amidst very challenging times. For more information about ONP, visit www.operationnorthpole.org.
