COMMUNITY BACKGROUND

Barrington is located approximately 38 miles northwest of the Chicago Loop and encompasses a total land area of approximately 5.1 square miles operating under the President-Trustee form of government.  Barrington has a population of 10,327.

 

OBJECTIVE

The Village of Barrington seeks an experienced professional to support the Director in performing complex supervisory, administrative and professional work in planning, organizing and supervising the Public Works Department, including water, sewer, street, traffic control, fleet maintenance and other public works projects and programs.  The position is responsible for budget preparation, planning and coordinating and reviewing public works related projects, implementing policies, codes, standards and processes related to the Village.  In addition, reviewing, researching, analyzing and providing reports to the Director, the Village Manager and the Village Board.  Also performs special tasks and duties as requested by the Director of Public Works.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for Public Works Assistant Director includes graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, public administration, or a closely related field; five years progressively responsible experience in public works maintenance program, including three years of supervisory and project management direction; knowledge of municipal practices and construction codes or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Additionally the candidate should possess a valid Illinois CDL license, Class A, with an air break rider, tanker rider, and hazardous material rider (or obtain one within one year of employment).

 

COMPENSATION

Starting salary is $96,000+/- depending on qualifications.  The Village of Barrington provides an excellent benefit package.
