Temporary Lane Closures and Detours on E. Hillside Avenue

Beginning June 3, temporary westbound lane closures and detours will be in place on E. Hillside Avenue while crews work to replace the lead service lines. Eastbound traffic will still flow normally. Work is expected to continue through Wednesday, June 5. Please plan accordingly and allow for extra travel time.

IL Route 59 Resurfacing and Sidewalk Work (IDOT)

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is resurfacing Route 59 south of Main Street (Lake Cook Road) this summer. Resurfacing work will take place on Route 59 (Hough Street) between Main Street and Hawthorne Road (where Route 59 splits with Barrington Road), and additional roadway sealing work will take place south of the split to Dundee Road. Work also includes replacement of sidewalks at intersections and generally is planned to progress from south to north. Work will begin with curb sawcutting, which is currently anticipated to commence on Wednesday, June 5. Concrete removal and replacement work will follow, with replacements on the east side completed first followed by those on the west side of the street. Work will not necessitate any permanent lane closures. Flaggers will be utilized to direct traffic around the work zone, which may impact travel times, please plan accordingly. Any questions or concerns can be reported to IDOT via their online portal.

Ela and Long Grove Road (LCDOT)

Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is coordinating intersection improvements at Ela Road and Long Grove Road in the Villages of Barrington and Deer Park.

The improvements will add a southbound left turn lane on Ela Road and right and left turn lanes on Long Grove Road. The intersection will be signalized and include 5-foot bike lanes and an 8-foot shared-use path between Fox Glove Lane North and the Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve.

Construction work was initiated in late April of 2024 following the completion of utility relocations. Updates on the current project status can be found on the LCDOT project page.

2024 Road Program

The Village has awarded the 2024 Road Program to low bidder, Schroeder Asphalt Services. Work this year is depicted on the map below and includes resurfacing of Lake Shore Drive North (1), Skyline Drive (2), Highland Avenue (3), a cul-de-sac in Park Barrington (4) and targeted sidewalk repairs on West Main Street (5).

Work has started and is scheduled to be substantially complete in early July.  Adjacent property owners will receive flyers notifying them of the work ahead of construction in their area which will provide additional detailed information regarding construction.

U.S. Route 14 Grade Separation (Underpass) Project

Did you know the Village of Barrington maintains a dedicated website for the U.S. Route 14 Grade Separation (underpass) project? The public is encouraged to stay informed throughout the project by visiting the website at www.us14underpass.com and signing up for email updates.

In the coming months, recent tree removals will pave the way for private utility relocations by ComEd, Nicor, and Verizon, setting the stage for construction later this year.

Fully funded and supported by multiple agencies, this initiative promises transformative changes to the area. Additional project renderings are available on the website for a glimpse into the future of Route 14.

Downtown Barrington Sanitary Sewer Cleaning and Televising

Beginning May 28, Pipe View will be cleaning and televising sanitary sewers in the Central Business District in downtown Barrington. This important work may cause minor traffic delays while crews set up and perform their tasks on various streets and areas. The work is expected to last approximately two months. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as Pipe View works to improve the Village’s infrastructure.
