Every 10 years, the Village of Barrington undertakes the review of its Comprehensive Plan in order to take stock of where our Village is to date and where we would like to go in the future. The Comprehensive Plan covers land use, neighborhoods, housing, transportation, community design, character, and more. As a first step in this process, a Resident Survey was sent out in early 2019. From that survey, we gained many insights on where the community stands on certain issues and what our residents view as the most important priorities moving forward.
2019-2020 PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT & NEXT STEPS
Throughout 2019-2020 the Village held a series of ten (10) public participation meetings which were attended by approximately 340 members of the community! The community provided excellent feedback on a variety of topics including nieghborhood specific concerns, desired bike and pedestrian improvements, traffic and transportation, economic development, environmental sustainability, etc. The Village Board and Plan Commission will review Comprehensive Plan drafts, which incorporate 2019 resident survey and 2019-2020 public meeting feedback, at workshop sessions in January 2021. The final draft of the 2020 Comprehensive Plan will be presented to the Village Board and Plan Commission in February 2021 and followed by a public hearing at the Plan Commission, tentatively scheduled for March 9, 2021. The Village Board will consider adoption of the 2020 Comprehensive Plan in April 2021. Note: Village meeting agendas are typically posted 48 hours in advance.
