Wastewater Treatment Division

The Wastewater Treatment Division of the Public Works Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Facility and Sewage Lift Stations that serve the residents of Barrington, including portions of Inverness, and Barrington Hills. Specific responsibilities include the operation and maintenance/repair of all equipment and include all buildings and grounds at the Wastewater Treatment Facility, twelve Sewage Lift Stations, one Storm Water Lift Station, and one industrial sampling hut. This Division is also responsible for the coordination of the Sludge Management and for conducting all required tests on the treated effluent that is discharged from the Wastewater Treatment Facility.

Major Service Activities

  • Monitoring, operation, and repair of various electrical and heating controls, telemetry systems, motors, pumps, valves, compressors, flow meters, standby generators, boilers, and various types of treatment process equipment.
  • Sample collection and analysis for process control and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) (State and Federal) reporting requirements.
  • Pretreatment activity involves the sampling, analysis, and evaluation of industrial discharge to the sanitary system.
  • Perform over 7,000 tests on the raw sewage (influent) and treated water (effluent) annually

Water Production Division

The Water Production Division of the Public Works Department is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of water production facilities that produce all of the potable water used by the residents of Barrington, including portions of Inverness, and Barrington Hills. Specific responsibilities include the operation, maintenance, and repair of all equipment, buildings, and grounds at four (4) well sites, three (3) water storage reservoirs, three (3) elevated water storage tanks, one (1) pressure reducing station and one (1) iron filtration facility. This Division is also responsible for all testing of the water supply

Major Service Activities

  • Perform over 6,000 tests on pre- and post-treated water annually.
  • Typical job assignments include the monitoring, operation, and repair of various electrical and heating controls, telemetry systems, motors, pumps, valves, compressors, flow meters, and standby generators, boilers, and various types of treatment process equipment.
  • Monitoring chemical feed rates and related equipment in addition to general housekeeping and compliance sampling and reporting.
