Street Division
The Public Works Streets Division is responsible for the maintenance of all Village roads, sidewalks, public rights-of-way, and all administrative functions related to these maintenance activities. Specific services provided include maintenance of the roadway, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, street sweeping, pavement markings/delineation, snow and ice removal, brush chipping, maintenance of drainage ditches, culverts, storm sewers, alley maintenance, parking lot maintenance, maintenance of street lights and traffic control devices, and maintenance of all street signage.


Major Service Activities

  • Perform sign repair and replacement
  • Snow and ice removal of streets and parking lots
  • Traffic control for various parades and special events
  • Performs minor repairs on damaged streets, parkways, sidewalks, and curbs
  • Performs regularly scheduled street sweeping
  • Striping of all Village crosswalks, school crossings, and parking lots
  • Maintain all Village parking lots and Village-owned street lights
  • Maintain the school flashing lights
  • Grade gravel alleys
  • Remove dead animals and trash on the road
  • Administer the Adopt-A-Highway Program
  • Perform storm sewer maintenance and repair or replacement of storm inlets, manholes, and catch basins
  • Locates underground utilities and Village-owned street light cables
  • Provides seasonal brush pick-up, chipping services, and special pick-ups related to storm damage


Snow Removal and Ice Control Service - Chippendale Subdivision & Village Center/ Commuter Lot

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP) Issue Date February 25, 2020 - For Request for proposals for snow removal and ice control services for the Barrinton Chippendale Subdivision  and the Barrington Commuter Lot/Train Station And Barrington Village Center, respectively.   All Contract Documents are on file at the Barrington Public Works Department, 300 North Raymond Avenue, Barrington, Illinois and are available by contacting 847-304-3365. No Proposal shall be considered unless it is made on the Proposal Form furnished with the contract documents unless otherwise specified.   Due to the State of Illinois issuing a "Stay at Home" order, Barrington will be extending the bid deadline until 10:00 a.m. local time on April 23, 2020.
