Building Codes

Comprehensive Plan

The Comprehensive Plan is the Village’s overall guiding document for long-range planning. The plan addresses issues such as land use, transportation, intergovernmental relations, environment, and housing. The Village’s Watershed Development Ordinance is included in the Comprehensive Plan.

Licensing

Village licenses are required for food sales/service, liquor sales, tobacco sales, and certain other activities. For details regarding all required licenses, visit our Licenses & Registrations page.

Parking Regulations

Residential parking in the Village is regulated to help preserve the character and safety of neighborhoods. Similarly, parking downtown and at the train station is also regulated, in order to ensure availability of spaces and facilitate snow plowing and street cleaning.

Proclamations

Throughout the year, the Village issues proclamations to honor citizens, not-for-profit organizations and other groups who have contributed to the betterment of our community.

Property Maintenance

Details on Barrington’s property maintenance codes can be found on our Property Maintenance Codes page.  If you would like to report a property maintenance violation on a property within the Village of Barrington, please complete a Property Maintenance Form.  All of our property maintenance violations are dealt with on an anonymous basis but we encourage complainants to include their contact information so we can provide follow-up and status information as it becomes available.  This form can be emailed to selder@barrington-il.gov, faxed to the Development Services Department at (847) 381-1056 or returned to Village Hall at 200 S. Hough Street, Barrington, IL 60010.

Special Events

A variety of special events are held in the Village every year, helping make Barrington a great place to live, work, and play. Conducting a special event requires careful planning and knowledge of various regulations, If your organization is planning an event in Barrington, you must fill out certain applications and permits.

Strategic Plan

Barrington’s Strategic Plan answers the question “How can your Village government accomplish what is most important to the Village of Barrington residents and our community?” Asking and answering this question is a principled action for community-minded and forward-thinking local governments.

Zoning Ordinance

The Village of Barrington Zoning Ordinance regulates zoning and land use in the Village. The Sign Regulations are also found in the Zoning Ordinance.
