The Village of Barrington invites applications from qualified candidates for the new position of a Director of Cultural Affairs for the Village and Barrington’s White House.
Minimum educational requirements include a degree in an arts discipline, which could include art, music, theater, humanities, and arts education fields. And advanced degree in an arts discipline is preferred (MFA, DMA, Ed.D, Ph.D, etc.).
Work experience should include a minimum of ten years of success as an educator, performer, manager of venues, supervisor of arts venues, or leadership of arts-related non-profit organizations.
Reporting to the Village Manager, the Director will work throughout the community in providing for an exceptional and vibrant cultural and arts life for the Village of Barrington and those visiting from surrounding areas. Anticipated responsibilities include development and management of a cultural series at Barrington’s White House, oversight of cultural activities presented by the Village, and frequent contact demonstrating a spirit of cooperation with established arts organizations within the Village, such as Parker Players, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, the Barrington Area Library and others. Additional responsibilities could include frequent dialog with arts educators and leaders in Barrington School District 220.
A regular part of the Director’s responsibilities will include oversight of the Village’s Cultural Commission, including budgetary supervision and preparation, convening of working groups, and providing leadership as required that makes for successful outcomes in cultural undertakings scheduled regularly throughout the year. Extended oversight will also include Barrington’s White House Advisory Committee and Friends of Barrington’s White House Board of Directors and a robust volunteer organization.
Additional responsibilities include fund development and oversight of events related to the raising of funds in the community, in addition to assignments with staff and board members engaged in development activities.
This position will supervise department staff and volunteers.
The full-time annual starting salary is $110,000, dependent on qualifications and will include a benefit program inclusive of participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund and group health insurance programs.
