Enjoy Barrington

Over the weekend the Village of Barrington Police Department was called to investigate a vandalism incident involving homophobic slurs spray-painted onto a family home in a Barrington neighborhood. The perpetrators vandalized the home’s garage doors, side doors, and exterior brick walls. The police are currently reviewing video footage and working with the family to identify the suspects (there is currently a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators; please call 847-304-3306 if you have information).

We would like to state unequivocally that the Village of Barrington does not tolerate this type of vandalism or homophobic attack on any member of our community. Hate in any form has no place in Barrington, and we are deeply troubled by incidents such as this.

At its core, Barrington is a community that values the positive contributions of our citizens, and each time an incident like this occurs, it reminds us that we cannot let down our guard when it comes to ensuring that our community is a safe and inclusive place to live for all of our residents. While these are indeed stressful times, incidents of intolerance such as this do not represent the best of Barrington.

Over the years, as Barrington has faced other such incidents of hate and intolerance, the community has responded by banding together to form task forces, nonprofits, and other coalitions and organizations that aim to provide outreach, education, and resources to help create a better Barrington.

If you or your family is looking for these resources, either to get involved or to take advantage of the opportunities they provide, I would direct you to Barrington Youth and Family Services, the Healthier Barrington Coalition, the Broncos HELP hotline, BeStrong Together, and others.

It is important for all of us to remember that Barrington is better than hateful messages and homophobic slurs. I hope you will join the us in denouncing this type of behavior and working together to create positive change in our community.
