Metra Access Drive
The Village was awarded Surface Transportation Program (STP) funding to complete construction of a new, signalized access drive to the north commuter parking lots. This drive will be constructed off of Route 14, approximately 1000 feet south of Main Street and adjacent to the Barrington Animal Hospital. A new traffic signal will be incorporated on Route 14 to provide better traffic flow into and out of the north commuter parking lots and assist in alleviating congestion on and adjacent to Main Street. Construction is anticipated to commence in spring of 2021.
Route 14 Grade Separation
The Village was awarded shared, regionally funded Surface Transportation Program (STP) dollars to complete Phase 2 Design and Construction of a Grade Separation at Route 14 and the CN train tracks. Survey work necessary to start Phase 2 detailed design work began in November 2020 and the Village's design consultant, Civiltech, is currently coordinating the commencement of the detailed design work with the Illinois Department of Transportation. The Village has worked with Civiltech to prioritize an updated rendering of the project scope, which will be released on the Village website and e-news updates in early 2021. Following that work, detailed draft plans will be created and shared with adjacent property owners for review so landscaping, fencing, access and safety concerns can be evaluated as part of the detailed design work. The design creation, review, and update process is considerable for a project of this size and is anticipated to be substantially complete by the end of 2022. Construction will commence following permitting approvals in late 2022 or 2023 and has an anticipated duration of 18 months to 2 years, during which time a 4 lane temporary roadway will maintain existing traffic flow directly adjacent to the existing roadway. As this design process moves forward and IDOT commences coordination of the remaining land acquisition for this project, the Village will provide updates on our website, here: barrington-il.gov/underpass
Hart Road Water Main Replacement
The existing water main on Hart Road between Main Street and the Hart Road office complex is essential to maintaining pressure within the Village's water system but has aged, resulting in multiple breaks and high maintenance costs. A design for replacement of this line has been completed and construction will be completed along the west side of Hart Road in 2021 to improve reliability and service and reduce maintenance costs.
Hart Road Multi-Use Path Design
The Village recently received preliminary design approvals for a multi-use path along the north side of Main Street, west of Hager Avenue to Hart Road, and along the east side of Hart Road north to the bike and pedestrian accommodations installed as part of the ongoing Hart Road and Route 14 intersection improvement project completed by Lake County Department of Transportation. Phase 2 detailed design work for this path will commence in 2021, utilizing Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grant funding. The construction schedule for this path will be coordinated with Lake County Department of Transportation bridge improvements on Hart Road over Flint Creek, which runs just north of the High School football field.
